Where This Book Will Fly You
Like any other city center, flying over Venice requires special permissions and a strict plan. This book has no real index; if any, it would be very close to the flight plan we communicated before taking off. So, now that the hard work has been done... and printed, let's relax and enjoy the volume together.
The captain welcomes you. The weather is mild, it is 10 am of a nice Spring morning. We will take you over the Calatrava bridge, Rialto, Saint Mark's, the less known areas in the sestieri di Santa Croce, Castello, San Polo, Giudecca, the Lido, the minor islands, the lagoon. You will see the roofs of Venice, of its most glorious palazzi and of its "normal" houses - though nothing can be described as "normal" in Venice. You will see the calli (streets), campielli (squares), which form a web-like pattern; a pattern which can only be seen from above. Hundreds of small bridges connect the emerged land which in centuries formed the historical city center. And by reading the book, you'll found out (at last) the exact number of bridges connecting the small islands which form the territory of the historical center.
