Aerial Photography
When we refer to Aerial Photography, we mean that the photos published in "Venezia dall'Alto / Venice from Above" were taken from an helicopter flying over Venice at low altitude, a minimum of 100 meters from the ground (more than the St.Mark's belltower). Aerial photography is the taking of photographs of the ground from an elevated position; in this case the camera was held by the photographer, in other cases it can be mounted on some equipment. A long way has been run after the first aerial photographs shot by the French photographer and balloonist Gaspard-Félix Tournachon (known as "Nadar"), in 1858 over Paris. Aerial photography was developed in the 20th century mainly for military purposes, for the surveillance of the territory, in cartography, and in more recent times for environmental studies, and leisure. Aerial photography often requires a correction in perpsective for photographs.
